Introduction

 

A man in a legal but hurtful business needs an escort for some social events, and hires a beautiful prostitute he meets... only to fall in love -- PRETTY WOMAN, it is one of my favourite romantic comedies.

Pretty Woman is a 1990 romantic comedy film. Written by J.F. Lawton and directed by Garry Marshall, the film features Richard Gere, Julia Roberts and Hector Elizondo. Pretty Woman's plot centers on down-on-her-luck Hollywood prostitute Vivian Ward who is hired by a wealthy businessman, Edward Lewis, to be his escort for several business and social functions, and their developing relationship over the course of Vivian's week long stay with him.







Originally intended to be a dark drama about prostitution in New York, the film was reconceptualized into a romantic comedy with a broader budget. The film was a critical success and became one of 1990's highest grossing films, and today is one of the most financially successful entries in the romantic comedy genre, with an estimated gross of $463.4 million USD.Roberts received a Golden Globe Award for her role, and received a nomination for an Academy Award, in addition screenwriter J.F. Lawton was nominated for a Writers Guild Award and a BAFTA Award. The film was followed by a string of similar romantic comedies, including Runaway Bride (1999), which re-united Gere and Roberts under the direction of Garry Marshall once again.

  

 

  

Storyline

Edward is a rich, ruthless businessman who specializes in taking over companies and then selling them off piece by piece. He travels to Los Angeles for a business trip and decides to hire a prostitute. They take a liking to each other and he offers her money if she'll stay with him for an entire week while he makes the "rich and famous" scene (since it doesn't do for a man of his stature to be alone at society parties and polo matches).

 

Awards

The film received four 1990 Golden Globe Awards nominations: Best Motion Picture, Best Actor for Richard Gere, Best Actress for Julia Roberts, and Best Supporting Actor for Hector Elizondo. The film also earned Roberts her second Academy Award nomination and her first nomination for Best Actress.

How To Date An Otaku Girl？

How to date an otaku girl? This is a question. This is a big question -- for Mutou Ookawa.

Description: College student Mutou Ookawa catches a glimpse of Ametani Yuiko, his co-worker from a former part-time job and falls immediately in love. Summoning up his courage, he eventually confesses his feelings to her and she responds "...but I'm a fujoshi." Mutou not having the slight clue what "fujoshi" means, immediately responds "That's OK!"

In my opinion, this movie is not like TOKYO LOVE STORY or NANA, which could play an important role in Janpanese movie history. Though, it is also set up a totally new beginning of romantic comedy lover mode -- college boy and otaku girl.

One of the most important reasons that I recommend this romantic comedy, is I am also an anime otaku myself (But not like the girl in this movie, who is fujoshi) so the story is really good and I feel so close to my life. However, I’m not that crazy and much of an otaku YET while one of my friend is exactly like that actress.



The story was really good, quite far away from reality finding a man like that, but it was so good that I didn’t want it to end! there might be very few dull moments after they reach the climax, but it’s worth it.

The cast. The main boy is attractive, and his personality is superb. Even though his appearance is not my cake while I still like his tender and soft. In fact, I think boy like him is impossible to find in realistic world. In addtion, the main girl is really cute. There are times she looks really beautiful, and some are not that much. The main boy’s bestfriend looks like 2PM Chansung and Matsuda Shota anyways, anyway, he’s really hot  =ww=



All in all, the drama is superb. Good cast, light but good story and lovely OSTs.

As my point of view, wihout doubt, First Love [A Little Thing Called Love] (2010) is one of the most successful and heart-warming romantic comedies  from Thailand.

Gnomeo and Juliet

Hello guys! Welcome to our fantastic world about romantic comedy movies. There are several romantic comedy films from different countries will be introduced, including American, Chinese, Thailand, and so on.


In the first place, we will provide some basic knowledge and definition about this kind of movie. Romantic comedy films (abbreviated as rom coms or romcoms) are films with light-hearted, humorous plotlines, centered on romantic ideals such as a true love able to surmount most obstacles. Romantic comedy films are a sub-genre of comedy films as well as of romance films and often have elements of screwball comedies and stoner comedies. Romantic comedy can also be used to describe some television series.


In addition, the basic plot of a romantic comedy is that two protagonists, usually a man and a woman, meet, part ways due to an argument or other obstacle, then ultimately reunite. Sometimes the two protagonists meet and become involved initially, then must confront challenges to their union. Sometimes the two protagonists are hesitant to become romantically involved because they believe that they do not like each other, because one of them already has a partner, or because of social pressures. However, the screenwriters leave clues that suggest that the characters are, in fact, attracted to each other and that they would be a good love match. The protagonists often separate or seek time apart to sort out their feelings or deal with the external obstacles to their being together.
While the two protagonists are separated, one or both of them usually realizes that they are ideal for each other, or that they are in love with each other. Then, after one of the two makes some spectacular effort to find the other person and declare their love, (this is sometimes called the grand gesture), or due to an astonishing coincidental encounter, the two meet again. Then, perhaps with some comic friction or awkwardness, they declare their love for each other and the film ends happily. The couple does not, however, have to marry, or live together "happily ever after". The ending of a romantic comedy is meant to affirm the primary importance of the love relationship in its protagonists' lives, even if they physically separate in the end (e.g. Shakespeare in Love, Roman Holiday).
There are many variations on this basic plotline. Sometimes, instead of the two lead characters ending up in each other's arms, another love match will be made between one of the principal characters and a secondary character (e.g., My Best Friend's Wedding and My Super Ex-Girlfriend). Alternatively, the film may be a rumination on the impossibility of love, as in Woody Allen's film Annie Hall. The basic format of a romantic comedy film can be found in much earlier sources, such as Shakespeare plays like Much Ado About Nothing and A Midsummer Night's Dream.
Some comedy films, such as Knocked Up, combine themes of romantic comedies and stoner comedies, creating a subgenre that appeals to both men and women. This genre is slowly becoming known as the "Bromcom" (Bro's Romantic Comedy) among reviewers, originally quoted by amateur film reviewer Luke Dilena in a number of his printed underground independent film review columns. These type of films usually uses sexual content and this brings the two characters together. Films in this genre include American Pie 2 or even Wedding Crashers.
